Payment Terms

These Payment Terms explain how billing for paid membership plans works, and how online rent collection works between landlords and tenants using the Service.

Payment Processor

All payments made through Simple Landlord Tools - membership plan charges and tenant rent payments - are processed by Square, a third-party payment processor. We don't store your full card details; Square handles that in accordance with its own terms and security standards.

Membership Plan Billing

Pro and Elite plans are billed on the schedule shown at checkout (monthly or annual). Prices are shown before you confirm payment. Plan prices are set by us and may change; we'll show current pricing on the Pricing page and won't change what you're charged for your current billing period without notice.

Your plan renews automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel beforehand. You can cancel anytime from Account Settings.

Rent Collection

If a landlord enables online rent collection, a tenant can pay rent through Square from their Tenant Portal. Simple Landlord Tools facilitates the connection between tenant and landlord but is not a party to the rent payment itself - the funds are a transaction between tenant and landlord, processed via Square.

Landlords are responsible for any Square processing fees associated with rent payments they collect, per Square's own fee schedule and the landlord's own Square account settings.

Failed or Disputed Payments

If a payment fails or is disputed (e.g., a chargeback), Square's standard dispute process applies. We'll assist by providing records of the transaction where we're able to, but disputes over rent payments are ultimately a matter between landlord and tenant.

Taxes

You're responsible for determining and remitting any taxes that apply to your use of the Service or to rent you collect, including income tax on rental income. We don't provide tax advice or automatically withhold or remit taxes on your behalf.

Currency

All prices and payments processed through the Service are in U.S. dollars.
